Mumford, Lewis
(19 oct. 1895, Flushing, N.Y., EE.UU.–26 ene. 1990, Amenia, N.Y.).

Crítico de arquitectura, urbanista e historiador cultural estadounidense. Después de estudiar en el City College de Nueva York y en la New School for Social Research, dictó cátedra en varias universidades y escribió para The New Yorker, The Dial y otras revistas. En obras como Técnica y civilización (1934), La ciudad en la historia (1961) y El mito de la máquina (3 vol., 1967–70), analizó los efectos de la tecnología y la urbanización en las sociedades humanas, criticó las tendencias deshumanizadoras de la sociedad tecnológica moderna y exhortó a armonizarla con metas y aspiraciones humanistas.
